Presidents Message
Mike Walsh, President
October 2011
PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
Another year has commenced for the APICS New Bedford Chapter #1. As we
look forward, we expect nothing less than another successful year
(2011-2012). That projected, how do we – how should we measure success? By
the numbers, our chapter is sound and successful – we offer educational
programs; conduct professional development meetings; communicate with
membership; provide networking and job bank opportunities and support the
community.
Still, our membership has been declining over the past few years. And
attendance at monthly PDM’s has been poor at best. And registration for
education programs offered has been weaker than as compared to recent past
years. Blaming the economy is an easy addition to the blame pie, but we
felt the need to discover the detailed pulse of current membership.
We recently conducted a membership survey (results to follow) and I want
to applaud each and every member that participated, providing candid
thought and comments. A few of the comments immediately resulted in: a
review and update of our email list distribution; a review of our website
for content and currently working to remove dated information and replace
with new and improved resources.
Speaking of the website – www.apicsnewbedford.org – I want to personally
thank all members of our chapter for assuming the new Board of Directors
position – Director of Website. This BOD position has the responsibility
of notifying me when some element of the chapter website needs to be
addressed. We will all become the solution to the problem.
Resounding issues from the survey for lack of active participation
included work, family, time and topics. That understood, the BOD has met
several times during September. What if, we used our chapter website as
the core of chapter events or activities? What if, we effectively became a
virtual chapter? We are looking at offering PDM’s via SKYPE – looking at
providing a series of educational webinars – and perhaps downloadable
white papers or power point presentations. Please advise your interest
level in an active website.
