Presidents Message
Mike Walsh, President
November 2008
Howdy,
At this time of year, many of us are looking to the Holidays
and toward the end of the year. We are planning - with
friends and family - to spend time with friends and family.
On behalf of the New Bedford Chapter Board of Directors, we
wish you all the very best for Thanksgiving and all the
Holidays and events celebrated during December. Please save
me a piece of pie; meanwhile please read on....
If I were to suggest to readers of this note, that I would
like YOU to assist in the recruitment of new APICS chapter
members, most of YOU would presume that I was reaching out
to the other YOU. However, you would be wrong. I am actually
trying to reach out to every current and past member of the
New Bedford Chapter - YOU. The NEWB chapter needs new
members to sustain energy and viability; to generate new
ideas and program needs; to expose education and information
needs for the future; to provide a base for new Board of
Director or new Instructors; and of course, to continue the
population of a forum that brings professionals together for
discussion of current problems and their resolution – just
like our founding fathers did some fifty years ago.
We fully understand that dollars are hard to come by -
regardless of whether memberships are paid for by your
company or by you, the employee. As a result, the Board of
Directors has developed a new membership campaign.
Effectively, I am asking that each of you immediately become
a company coordinator. I would also ask that you each spread
the word about APICS membership. I would further ask that
each of you explain to others, within and outside of your
company, the amount of value you get with APICS membership
and correct the notion that membership to the New Bedford
chapter is a cost - rather, it would be an investment in the
current and the future for both the professional and the
company.
Hence, all current and past members of the New Bedford
Chapter are hereby appointed to the NEWB chapter Sales Team.
As such, any member of the NEWB Sales Team will earn and
receive $25.00 for each new member recruited to the New
Bedford Chapter of APICS, effectively immediately and until
further notice.
Imagine that - COLD, HARD, CASH, just for sharing the
benefits of your APICS membership to the New Bedford Chapter
- with other professionals.

Next PDM Meeting
October 24, 2008
Speaker: Mike Walsh, QI, CPIM
Topic: Root Cause / Corrective Action Workshop
Asking "Why?" may be a favorite technique
of your three year old child in driving you crazy, but it
could teach you a valuable Six Sigma quality lesson. The 5
Whys is a technique used in the Analyze phase of the Six
Sigma DMAIC methodology. It's a great Six Sigma tool that
doesn't involve data segmentation, hypothesis testing,
regression or other advanced statistical tools, and in many
cases can be completed without a data collection plan
