On Monday, August 15, 2010, Laurie and I both had a vacation day. Of all the day trips possible, we met with Alex and Jay; both also on vacation and both from Lockheed Martin, Marion, MA – at the Dunkin Donuts in Fairhaven, MA. – Just a few blocks from the September Meeting.

After introductions, we spent a fair amount of time discussing the APICS CPIM certification program, which included the modules, testing, resources, costs and format options for review courses. We also discussed some of the benefits of APICS memberships, including discounts on certifications materials, exams and review courses – and I gave them both a sample BSCM exam to keep them busy during their vacations. Do you think they will email me answers this week?

• Both Alex and Jay are considering attending the next APICS CPIM BSCM workshop.

• Both Alex and Jay are considering becoming members of the NEWB Chapter.

• Both Alex and Jay are considering becoming NEWB Company Coordinators for LMCO.

• Both Alex and Jay were glad to leave the sound of my voice and get on with their very well deserved vacations.

Laurie and I walked away from the meeting with hope for our chapter and pleased that younger professionals still understand the value of APICS certification, as well as, the value in attending meetings with other area professionals to assist in resolution to real world problems.
I look forward to personally recognizing Alex and Jay at the NEWB September 2010 Meeting.

New Bedford Chapter goes for the Gold!

The APICS NEW BEDFORD CHAPTER # 1 was awarded the GOLD AWARD for Administrative Achievements for the 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009 program years.

I am pleased to announce that NEWB has recently submitted our CMS and C-BAR for 2009-1010. We are hopeful that NEWB, once again achieves the GOLD Award - our 4th.

In preparation for the 2010-2011 Program, Ed sent me an email saying that, “I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro last month.” “I've put together a multi-media presentation on my trip.” “I can make it fairly motivational around setting goals and achieving them, which might be relevant to people needing inspiration during these times.”

My response to Ed was “Are you kidding?” Fact is, whether you have a job or looking for employment or even very satisfied with your current position, we all need inspiration, motivation and a forward thinking mindset.
